Flag Raising Ceremony Speech on Bullying

Flag Raising Ceremony on the Independence Day

Selamat pagi,

A wonderful morning to all of you.

First of all, I would like to thank God who has been giving us blessings and mercies so that we can all be here together to do the flag raising in a very good condition.

Second of all, I also would like to appreciate the committee of the day, my students - secondary 3 students for sacrificing their time and energy to do all of this, but I guess it would not be as a good job like this without a help from the students council that have trained them before, so I would like to extend my appreciation to you too.

Respected DHT, teachers, and my dearest students. On this special occasion, I would like to talk about one of the issues that often occurs among juveniles, but sometimes or perhaps most of the time we are being ignorant about it, which is Bullying.

I am very convinced that every one of you knows what Bullying is, yet only few of us know that Bullying is more than just physical violence - such as pinching your friends’ body, punching on their faces, or pulling your friends’ chair. However, Bullying can also happen when you try to make someone feel excluded, lonely and left behind even though you are in the same room with him or her, or when you raise your voice to someone you think is not as smart as you, or the way you stare at someone that is so intimidating.

Teachers and my dearest students, what is worse about Bullying is sometimes the bullies don’t even realise what they do, they will just think that what they do is just a joke, or something’s fun - so ‘don’t take it personally’, well yes for you, but not for the victims.

On this occasion, I would like to remind myself and all of you that Bullying is not a cool thing to do as Bullying can affect someone’s entire life, can make them feel anxious and afraid. So please if any one of you feels bullied, tell your teachers, or someone that you can trust. And to the bullies, if something bad happens to your life, ask for help from someone that you can trust as well, do not project your anger and disappointment on innocent people. Talk about it, ask for help to heal yourself.

As a teacher, I really feel that avoiding Bullying happens in school is a very hard job to do. That is why, I ask you a favour to learn together. Let's educate ourselves to be aware of Bullying actions in our surroundings and its effects, and be teachable, because we are not always right.

To close this message, allow me to quote the words of Abraham Lincols ‘I would rather be a little nobody, than to be an evil somebody.’

That’s all from me.

Thank you. Good morning.
